Manchester Evening News readers celebrate winning holiday home at Willowgrove

Barton Park Homes would like to say congratulations, and welcome, to new Willowgrove holiday home owners Eileen and John Martin after the couple were unveiled as the lucky winners of the Manchester Evening News’ Win a Holiday Home competition.

EN Holiday Home Competition Winners Eileen and John MartinEileen and John recently retired from running the Parkside Hotel in Prestwich and have not had a holiday for two years. But life could now be one big holiday after they were handed the keys to the £35,000 holiday home following a tense final.

The holiday home is on Willowgrove Leisure Park and Fishery which is located in the picturesque village of Preesall near Blackpool, making it ideal for summer breaks.

The park features a five-acre fishing lake, an island bird sanctuary and a courtesy bus service, as well as being close to local shops and restaurants. But the couple will also be able to make the most of their new property over the winter months, as the home is decked out with double-glazing, central heating, a modern electric fire and a veranda.

After scooping the prize just days before her 65th birthday, Eileen said: “This is the best birthday present I could ever imagine. You never believe these things will happen to you so I’m still just trying to take it all in.”

The Win a Holiday Home competition invited readers to collect tokens printed daily in the M.E.N. at the start of September.

From the 2,800 entries, six were picked at random and the finalists were invited to participate in a special finale at[p2p type=”slug” value=”willowgrove-park-homes-in-lancashire”]Willowgrove[/p2p].

The finalists were instructed to pick one of six gold envelopes, each containing a key – with only one fitting the keyhole of the first-prize holiday home. The other five finalists were presented with vouchers for a weekend or mid-week break.

“We haven’t had a proper holiday in two years,” Eileen added. “So to now have a holiday home that’s all ours is just more than we could have dreamed of.”

Speaking at the finale event, Barton Park Homes Group Sales Manager,, said: “We’re absolutely delighted for Eileen and John and will do all we can to make them feel welcome at Willowgrove Leisure Park and Fishery.

“With nearly 3,000 entries, the competition has clearly shown the appeal of park home holidays to the British public.”
