Moving away from your family doesn’t mean you should miss out on the joys of being a grandparent. Being a grandparent is one of the greatest joys in life. You have loads of love to give without all the responsibilities of parenthood, you have been there and done that!
Communication channels are improving every day making it easier to stay in contact. Young children are fantastic at navigating the internet so there’s no excuse for grandparents to not learn the basics. Free video calling software such as Skype and Face-Time are available, which creates memories face to face. These are both free software so long as your device is connected to the internet, so get downloading! Virtual family reunions are not unheard of these days.
However, nothing beats a care package and handwritten letter in the post. They don’t have to be long-winded as it’s the thought that counts. It gives your grandchildren something exciting to look forward to each month even though it isn’t the latest technology or the newest gadget. Make sure you check with your local post office about things you can and can’t send in the post. You don’t want the little one to be upset when their care package doesn’t arrive.
Maybe it’s the other way around. You live further away in the UK and want to purchase your first park home to be closer to your grandchildren. It will release some cash to create more memories, meaning a long and happy retirement.
