Retirement can mean very different things for us all. Some of us look forward to taking it easier and doing a lot less, while some of us may feel that now is the time to do and see more.
Owners of residential park homes on [p2p type=”slug” value=”orton-grange-park-homes-in-cumbria”]Orton Grange[/p2p] in Cumbria know that they have the best of both worlds. The park provides a tranquil and relaxing surrounding, yet there are plenty of activities, sights and attractions on their doorstep and right across the sprawling county.
For those still undecided about where they’d like to retire to, here are three of the most popular places to visit in Cumbria, all within an hour’s drive of Orton Grange.
1. Windermere Lake Cruises
Found in the heart of the Lake District, Windermere is England’s largest lake. There are a number of relaxing walks around the lake but to really experience Windermere you have to get out on the water. Windermere Lake Cruises offer a number of cruises lasting from 45 minutes to 3 hours, and their fabulous steamboats have both covered and open top seating.
2. Rheged
Rheged is Europe’s largest grass covered building, designed to resemble a Lakeland hill – and it really does! It may be a little different, but Rheged offers an international award-winning day out.
You’ll be able to visit 10 rather special shops that reflect the unique nature of the region and offer items and gifts that you won’t find in a typical high street shop. There are pottery-painting workshops happening all the time and there’s a selection of delightful eateries offering fresh and distinctly Cumbrian food.
3. Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery offers a fabulous blend of history, art and nature.
Though the main exhibitions in the museum stay the same and showcase collections of fine art, human history and natural sciences, the smaller galleries change frequently and feature local, regional and national works.
The beautiful Old Tullie House is a classical Grade One Listed Jacobean building set in attractive and meticulously maintained gardens. It still retains its beautiful Jacobean façade and inside it is full of interactive and informative exhibitions and displays.
An award-winning restaurant is the perfect place to rest and refresh, offering a variety of snacks and meals, and in the gift shop you’ll find locally crafted souvenirs.
